Completed in 1958, Interlake Iron`s suspension bridge conveyor over the Calumet River linked the Chicago coke plant with the blast furnace plant. Coke and coke oven gas was delivered to the blast furnace from the coke plant, while process steam was delivered from the blast furnace site to the coke plant. With dimensions of 26 feet wide, 400 feet in length, and with a vertical clearance of 130 feet, Chicago`s only suspension bridge was demolished in 2005.
