The Virtual Museum PULLMAN HOUSE HISTORY PROJECT Online Maps

Most of the maps presented below are from the Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps, 1911 edition. Click on the small copy of the maps to bring up a detailed, larger map of the area. The maps are linked into the house history database, so clicking on a property will make a database query. For comparison, we have also included a few Rascher's maps of Pullman, Cook County, Illinois, from 1886 that cover a similar area.

Properties that are referenced in the database are indicated as a house and its surrounding yard, which look like: houseexampleentry.gif (2821 bytes)The numbers next to the house indicate its old and new street address, so, in this example, this would be 108 Stephenson/11117 Champlain.

Factory properties are highlighted in a rather nice shade of lavender.

Overall Maps

This is a very large (3 Mb) Sanborn Fire Insurance Map of the entire area of Pullman. It dates from 1901. Photographs in our collection have been matched to their location on the map. Click on a red dot to see the photographs.

1901 Map of Pullman Area

One of the most beautiful maps of Pullman ever made, the 1882 Hyde Park Township plat map was hand colored. Mr. Pullman would not allow the map makers onto "his" property, so they were forced to guess at where things were located using drawings and photographs. Notice on the southern map, there is an older development (pre-Pullman) platted.

The north part, including the factory.

The south part.
