Lupo, Dominic J.

Papers relating to Dominic J. Lupo, alderman of the 9th ward in Chicago from 1959 to 1971. Ward included Pullman and Roseland. Parise Family

Images of Valentino Parise and family. Parise immigrated to Chicago from Venice, Italy. He purchased land at 400 E. Kensington (Kinsinton and South Park) where he operated an office for the Cunard steamship lines and later opened the Kensington Buffet Company (a saloon), a restaurant and neighborhood bar. Also included is a paper written by Tony Parise on the history of his family and their businesses in Kensington for an American History class, 3/19/81.

Pullman Civic Organization Military Committee

File of items relating the the Military Committee: newsletter, photographs, etc. The Committee sent a monthly newsletter to the men and women in the armed forces during the Vietnam War - for over 7 years. A total of 132 military personnel received the newsletters, checks at Christmas and birthdays, and local newspapers.

Pullman Senior Citizens Club Scrapbook

Three-ring binder, 46 pages of photographs, programs and other items relating to the Pullman Seniors Club of the Pullman Civic Organization. Individuals in photographs are identified by name. Includes an alphabetical list of members of the Senior Group with follow-up comments. Mid 1970s to mid 1980s. Pullman Standard 100,000th PS-1 Boxcar

Record of the construction of Pullman-Standard's 100,000th PS-1 boxcar in 1962. The first boxcar, using a new standardization program, was built at its Michigan City plant in 1947. The record includes press releases, correspondence, approximately 60 builder's photographs of the construction of the car, the finished car with company executives, and the original boxcar. Many photographs are stamped on the reverse "Chicago Photographers, photographic illustrations, 26 East Huron St., Chicago 11, Illinois, WHitehall 4-4828"

Pullman War Memorial

In 1949, the Pullman Civic Organization (PCO) embarked on an effort to erect a monument to the 14 servicemen from Pullman who died in World War II. The project was headed by Ladi Tome, chairman of the PCO war monument committee. This record includes a written chronology by Mr. Tome of each step in the process starting in April, 1949 and ending on May 20, 1950. The monument was dedicated on May 21, 1950. The file contains correspondence with vendors, work orders, invoices, and correspondence with city officials regarding permitting, city council approvals, newspaper articles, etc. Also included are short biographies of each individual shown on the monument. Names were later added to memorialize servicemen from the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. There is later correspondence relating effort to move the monument from in front of Pullman School to Arcade Park in 1987. This effort was unsuccessful. The file contains copies, photocopies, and original handwritten documents. Full record available for viewing at the Bertha Ludlum Reading Room in the Hotel Florence.

Runsten Jr., Glenn Harold

Military record of Glenn Harold Runsten, Roseland resident. Record contains 1) Coast Guard ID, 2) Continuous Discharge Book, 3) one bible presented to him by Blythe Bethany Ref. Sunday School, 4) two government issued New Testaments, and his Coast Guard cap. File also includes employment records of his father, Glenn Harold Runsten Sr., an employee of the Pullman Company in the early 20th century.

Scudella, William T.

Bill Scudella was born in Pullman, April 19, 1909. At 17, he became an apprentice to his father, Taddeo, who at the time worked for Louis Comfort Tiffany. He studied painting in Italy, and worked with his father as an artistic glazier at Pullman Car Works when he returned to the United States. He moved to South Haven, MI in 1973 and began to make Tifany style lamps. This record includes personal correspondence, newspaper and magazine articles and photographs.
