There were many factories and plants on the Southeast Side other than steel mills. They were drawn to the area by the same factors that attracted the steel industry: cheap land, railroads, water, good transportation and an available labor pool. Some provided services to the steel mills and provided materials used in the making of steel. Others used the end products of the steel industry to make other finished products like ships and cars.
