A Mother's Appeal for her Son

Black-and-white broadside. "A Mother's Appeal for her Son. To the public: The bearer, having lost his left hand and two fingers off his right hand by a premature discharge of a cannon, on account of the re-election of Abraham Lincoln, is under the sad necessity of taking this way of gaining a living for himself and family, and most respectfully craves your patronage. Please buy his appeal--price 10 cents." A poem of 17 stanzas follows. Enclosed in ornamental border. "[Signed] M. A. Ray, Middletown, N.Y."
