2 gentlemen and Old Bob

Black-and-white photograph of dark horse standing in the street; seems to be Washington Street (north side), as the buildings at back may be on Adams Street (south side). OSC's wrought-iron fence behind them, curbing and sidewalk visible. One man wearing dark pants, vest and long coat, bearded, wearing hat, with hands tucked into pants pockets stands at the rear of horse. Another bearded man wearing dark pants, vest, and knee-length coat, wearing hat cocked over right ear is holding horse's bridle and reins; this might be John Flynn. Typed note on front reads "John Flynn, of Springfield, Ill. being duly sworn, says that he purchased this horse of Abraham Lincoln on the ____ day of January A.D. 1860, just previous to his departure for Washington, and that this picture was taken on the day of Lincoln's funeral, in 1865. (ink signature of John Flynn); State of Illinois / Sangamon County / Submitted and sworn to, before me this 20th day of May 1893. / (ink signature of Edward Cahill) / Clerk of the Sangamon Circuit Court." Probably the sale was January 1861, not January 1860. Man at right presumed to be Flynn, man at left unknown, as he seems to be neither Rev. Brown nor Rev. Trevan. Presumably Old Bob's new handler, employee of Flynn.
