Beman - Crab Tree Dairy Farm, 1911

Color photograph by Paul Petraitis. This ten building complex at 1 Sheridan Road, Lake Bluff, Illinois, was originally built for Mrs. Scott Durand. The dairy's main building features a clock tower, with wings on either side, fronting a reflecting pool. The dairy architecture evokes Germany or Scandinavia. This was Beman's last grouping of buildings. Today restored and housing a world-class collection of American and British Arts and Crafts artifacts. "Solon S. Beman:Architecture in Illinois" exhibit.
